Upgraded your Axim x50v to Windows Mobile? A few tips...

I upgraded my Dell Axim x50v to Windows Mobile 5 this week, and I thought I'd share a few tips & things I've learned since doing so.

Navigation - After you upgrade, you'll notice 2 "softkeys" at the bottom of the screen that take the place of most on-screen toolbars.  This is a major change in WM5; the push towards one-handed navigation.  At first, I didn't like this feature because what used to take 1 screen tap now takes a couple of taps (one to click the softkey, one to select the action).  Then someone pointed out to me that you can re-map your hardware keys to act as the softkeys.  I never used the contacts and e-mail keys on my x50v, so I mapped those to emulate <left soft key> and <right soft key> respectively.  I also remapped the "home" key to "ok/close".  Whammo!  Now I can basically navigate all menus and accomplish most tasks without ever pulling out the stylus!

Memory - Before the upgrade, the x50v has ~90 MB of "built in storage" + another 64 MB of program/storage space onboard.  After the upgrade, "built-in storage" is gone, but now you get all 90MB for "storage" and ~50MB for program space.  So most people will find they can install more programs on their device at the same time.

Error Reporting - WM5 has error reporting built in!  Submit those crashes!  It's free, and it really does make a difference in helping get the most common crashes fixed in each update.

Transcriber - Don't forget to re-retrain transcriber after your upgrade to improve handwriting recognition.  And if you find yourself spelling the same word over and over, why not create a custom writing shortcut to auto-type it (e.g. http://www..com):  Start->Settings->Input->select Transcriber->options->advanced.

Issues:  I've been having some issues with WiFi not receiving a signal after I turn on the device or wake it up on occassion.  I'm curious if other users are seeing the same problem?

Any other tips?
