Last week at Tech-Ed EMEA Developers conference we announced the availability of emulators and documentation for Internet Explorer Mobile 6, which is the next generation browser for Windows Mobile.

The browser will be available on Windows Mobile devices soon. Right now you can experience it through the Windows Mobile 6.1.4 Emulator Images

This package adds emulator images to Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio 2008 that let you test applications for Windows Mobile 6.1.4, including Internet Explorer Mobile 6.

With Internet Explorer Mobile 6 you get a much improved browsing experience:

Improved fidelity (support for full fidelity desktop rendering)

Layout fixes to accommodate a mobile screen (text wrap)

Enhanced Script and AJAX support (Jscript v5.7 from Internet Explorer 8)

Improved multimedia experience (Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 for Adobe Flash content)

Deeper integration with search

Enhanced cursor navigation model

Touch and gesture support – pan support

Multiple zoom levels

Easy switching between mobile / desktop versions of sites by specifying UA strings.

WebKit based Browser now available on Windows Mobile via TorchMobile

<img title="image" style="border-right: 0px;

A day doesn’t seem to go by without a new browser showdown or release but Vik pinged me about this development from TorchMobile and their Iris Browser which was really interesting. The Iris Browser is based on the Webkit rendering engine which if you aren’t familiar with is an open source application framework that provides a foundation upon which to build a web browser.

WebKit was originally derived from the Konqueror browser’s KHTML software library by Apple, Inc. for use as the engine of Mac OS X’s Safari web browser, and has now been further developed by Apple, Nokia, Google and others.

The framework is now used by Omniweb, Shiira, iCab, Adobe AIR, mobile phones (including the iPhone), Nokia’s Series 60 browser, and Google’s Android platform.

You can download the browser and get more details from HERE

iPhone Browser vs Opera 9.5

WMpoweruser.com have produced a great video which compares the Opera 9.5 Browser and the Iphone Safari Browser. Opera 9.5 is available on devices such as the HTC Touch Diamond along with many future devices such as the HTC Advantage II and the Samsung i900.

They used the Acid suite of tests to compare the two browsers. Check out the video
