RFID...It's time
Recently I read an interesting quote by Sir Issac Newton which goes somthing like "There is one thing stronger than all the armies of the world, and it is the idea whose time has come", that's when the title for my blog struck me...RFID...it's time!
In next few posts, I will write about why I am so passionate about this technology and why I think this technology can drive huge efficiencies in the supply chains. While the mandates by Retailers like Wal-Mart has really given RFID a new life, the work done orginally at Auto-ID Center (now EPC Global on EPC RFID has made this technology applicable to Retail, Manufacturing and the broader Supply chain scenarios. In not so distant future, its bound to have an impact on the way we buy and sell things, and thus has the potential to be misused and invade our privacy, I will discuss the myths and the realities, what is possible and what is pure fiction.
With the large amount of static and dynamic track and trace data generated, there is need to think through new business models to collect and manage the data and work on developing scalable distrubted architectures to share it across the enterprise. With concepts such as Service Orientation and technologies like Web services to be leveraged, I plan to throw in some initial ideas and listen to you, start a discussion.
First to get you started, if you are new to RFID (Where have you been :), I encourage you to get your hands on some RFID 101 kind of articles, reports etc. I like the one by Bear Stearns Supply-Chain Technology. If you want to know more about Microsoft and RFID you can look at Microsoft Partners Reach New Heights or Spanning the Supply Chain, you can also check out the links on the left for more.
This will be an interesting journey, and along the way you will get know more about me and I would love to learn whats on your mind, until then...
