A Homecoming of Sorts
Well after 5+ years with MCS (Microsoft’s Consulting Services) I’ve returned to the evangelism world joining the Canadian Developer Platform Evangelism team (you can read Mark’s announcement from his blog). It is a sort of homecoming – prior to MCS I spent 4 years in what was at the time called the Systems Engineering group – positioning COM, DCOM, MTS etc… (did marketing ever mess up calling the first delivery vehicle of some of these technologies the NT 4 Option Pack?)
It is pretty exciting when I consider the amount of products and complex technologies we will deliver over the next year. Hard to keep up with all of it, but hey that’s what I’m getting paid to do…love it.
You may come to see a lot of posts in my blog on Windows Media Center, Digital Media Receivers, Home Automation and Biometrics. My latest project is to remote control my Roku Labs DMR (I just love this device from Roku Labs and highly recommend it) using .Net of course and integrating it into MCE. Why, you might ask – just because and besides it seems redundant to have all these different media sources (the MCE Media Library, Windows Media Connect) and so on. If I’m using my MCE machine to look at albums why shouldn’t I just be able to say “play on roku” and target my output device?
I will complete my transition from MCS into DPE in early October then I’ll have a chance to get out there, so please come out and say hello. I’ll be at the Montreal Game Summit on November 2nd and 3rd. Then John Bristowe ( http://bristowe.com/blog/ ) and I will hit the road for the Visual Studio 2005, BizTalk Sever 2006 and SQL Server 2005 launch. Check out the date in your city and don’t forget to register at http://www.microsoft.com/canada/launch2005/.
