VS2008 Beta2 VPCs re-released

As the final act in our saga of expiring VPCs, I'm happy to announce that we've reissued VPCs for VS2008 Beta2 with an updated expiration date.  You can find the updated links on the VS2008 download page:

Thanks to everyone that has helped us get the word out about this situation and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this might have caused you.  Needless to say, we're taking steps now to ensure that we don't make this particular mistake again.

# Dmytro Lapshyn said on October 30, 2007 6:50 AM:

I'd suggest Microsoft posted a brief instruction explaining how to assemble the resultant VPC from the base VPC image and what is called "differencing disks" in the TFS 2008 Beta 2 VPC download description.

At present, the things are slighly confusing since the actual download page lists the base VPC image as a prerequisite, but the instructions on that page do not mention anything related to the base image.

# jeffbe said on October 30, 2007 7:17 AM:

Dmytro - thanks for catching that.  I've asked our team to clean up the instructions.  Just to be clear, you should not need to separately download the base OS image.

Hi Jeff,

Do I have to download the 4GB+ worth again, or are diffs for the base image going to be issued?

Thanks

# jeffbe said on November 5, 2007 7:28 AM:

Michael - due to the way the VPC images were build and the fact that the necessary change is in the base image, all the VPC images have been refreshed and will need to be re-downloaded.  Sorry about the extra download time this implies.
