Hmm, it's the 21st today and I'm a MSDN Subscriber (Team Suite). Up to now, i can see the VS 2008 TeamSuite and the Professional Edition. No TFS so far. May it be that replication around the world takes so long?

# jeffbe said on November 22, 2007 7:30 AM:

Joachim - Thanks for your note.  I'm checking to figure out why TFS Workgroup edition isn't yet available on the MSDN Subscriber download site.  For now, you should see a link on this page (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/default.aspx) to download it.

# Mohamed Mansour said on November 22, 2007 8:44 PM:

Hello,

I see the TFS Workgroup edition, but why are the following in the Top Downloads section for MSDN Premium Team Suite subscribers?

Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server Trial (x86 and x64 WoW) - DVD (English)

Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite Trial (x86 and x64 WoW) - DVD (English)

Visual Studio Team System 2008 Test Load Agent Trial (x86 and x64 WoW) - CD (English)

Are the above "Trials"? Where could I download the non-trials?

# Joachim said on November 23, 2007 5:35 AM:

Thanks for your help Jeff, i was able to start the download using your link. In my subscriber downloads, there is still VS 2008 Team Suite and VS 2008 Professional only.

# paul said on November 23, 2007 6:58 PM:

I didnt see the TFS workgroup or trial edition download for 2008 on the subscription site...

# jeffbe said on November 25, 2007 7:28 AM:

Paul - the trial edition of TFS should be available here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B0155166-B0A3-436E-AC95-37D7E39A440C&displaylang=en.

As I understand it, the TFS Workgroup Edition should be available through two different mechanisms in the coming days.  Both should be available from here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/default.aspx.

- Top Downloads (bottom light blue box)

- MSDN Retail Subscriber Download Visual Studio w/MSDN Premium Downloads and Product Keys  (text link on the right side of the page)

The thing that makes this difficult for me is that MS employees don't typically have access to the MSDN subscription pages so I have a hard time verifying what I'm telling you.  However, I have it on good authority that these two approaches should be working very soon if not already.

If not, please let me know and I'll keep pushing to make it so.

Thanks,

jeff

So far, only the 2005 TFS is available :(

Michael - I've heard from the MSDN team that TFS is now available (as of 11/27) for all subscribers through two different means:

- Top Downloads (bottom light blue box)

- MSDN Retail Subscriber Download Visual Studio w/MSDN Premium Downloads and Product Keys  (text link on the right side of the page)

Please try it out and let me know if you still can't see it.  Apologies for the struggles you've had getting our products. We're certainly learning from this experience and expect to make improvements moving forward.

What about the pure x64 version?  When's that coming out?

# jeffbe said on December 2, 2007 8:25 PM:

Dave - Thanks for your question.  As you know, we support creating 64bit applications with Visual Studio today.  Since our customers expect us to continue to run and target all recent Windows platforms, we need to maintain strong support for 32bit and 64bit platforms.  Since, it's not feasible for us to have separate releases of Visual Studio specifically for 64bit platforms we’ve chosen for now to stick with the general approach of providing a 32bit solution that allows developers to target and debug both architectures.  With regard to Team Foundation Server, we expect to release a 64bit version with our next major release.

TFS workgroup edition does not install on SQL 2005 Enterprise edition.

Is there a reason for this?

# jeffbe said on December 4, 2007 8:46 PM:

Rene - all editions of TFS (including workgroup) should certainly install on SQL 2005 Enterprise.  What error message are you receiving during install?  You might find it helpful to post the specifics on our forum so that others can help you out as well:  http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=68&SiteID=1.

JavaScript debugging is available with all editions of Team System as well as Visual Studio Pro.  I called it out for the Development Edition because they're the team that developed the feature.

Thanks for asking!
