Celebrate Ada Lovelace Day!
Tuesday, March 24 is "Ada Lovelace Day". Ada Lovelace is credited with being the first computer programmer. She worked with Charles Babbage, who designed the first mechanical programmable computer, called the "Analytical Engine". Ada wrote a program for the Analytical Engine (which Babbage hadn't physically built) that would calculate Bernoulli numbers. The programming language "Ada" was named after her. Research by psychologist Penelope Lockwood discovered that women need to see female role models more than men need to see male ones. That's part of the reason that I started my "Featured Women in Tech" blog post series.
In that spirit, Ada Lovelace Day is an international day of blogging to draw attention to women excelling in technology. To celebrate, sign the pledge and on March 24, write a blog post on a woman in technology whom you admire.
