Stuff I've bought lately

I’m an unstoppable gadget freak.  I know I need help.

  • So I drink a lot of coffee. Enough to justify a Starbucks Barista Digital Italia automatic espresso machine.  Water and coffee beans in, espresso out with one button press.  Dump out leftover grounds daily.  Amazing.
  • Digital camera next.  I bought a Panasonic SV-AV100 digital video recorder – records MPEG2 and MPEG4 onto SD cards.  Top of the MPEG4 quality spectrum requires 1Mbps, or about 450MB an hour.  Top of the MPEG2 quality spectrum requires 6 Mbps.  Also takes stills (including the one above). (So maybe I didn’t need another camera, given that I have a Casio Exilim Z4 and a Canon EOS Digital Rebel.)

Next post will be back to software: some thoughts on David Luckham’s Complex Event Processing.  Maybe a few words about my effort to install Gnu HURD under Virtual PC. (Yes, I’m serious.)
