Svenska är fantastiskt!

Swedish is amazing! Norwegian and Danish too, by the way. A while ago, I wrote in Swedish about an interesting localizability bug I saw while working on Windows XP. The gist of it is that in Home Edition, there's a user account called "Owner". There's

Announced: Windows XP Starter Edition in Russian

The Starter Edition program is growing - it began with Thai, Malay and Indonesian and now Russian has been added too. I think that this is a great way to bring Windows to the world. I know that it's both expensive and hard to localize all of Windows.

Performance counters - pretty straight forward

The System Monitor is an important feature in Windows. It allows administrators to monitor various types of activity on machines to gauge performance and receive alerts when something is off. Windows comes with a set of base counters and applications

ADM files - not so bad

Group policies are amazing. There are hundreds and hundreds of settings that you, the network administrator, can use to control your users' and computers' settings. Group policies give you control over what, how and if software is installed; allows you

MFL files is the worst

VBS files is the worst

Yesterday I was whining about a bunch of command line utilities in Windows. As useful as they are, they're a pain to localize. Turns out, they're not so bad after all - compared with some of the VBS file we have. Try this: Open a command prompt window

This type of command line utility is the worst

Over the last few releases, several interesting command line utilities have moved from the res kit into the default Windows installation. For instance, in Windows XP we have Tasklist, Taskkill, Bootcfg and Shutdown. In Server 2003 even more were added,

Command line utilities is the worst

Try this: Open a command prompt window Type "netsh" and press enter Type "help" and press enter Play around a little bit; jump around to different contexts, check syntax for a couple of commands Appreciate the amount of power netsh gives you. Appreciate

Localization & misspellings

So Swedish XP SP2 has been available from the Download Center since Monday. On Monday I proudly announced the URL as soon as I saw that it was live. I felt really good about this release. I've spent a lot of time on it, tried hard to get the Swedish version

Vilka förbättringar får man förutom

One way to use the MSDN glossaries

I couldn't* sleep Saturday night, so I wrote some code. I mean, what else can you do? I said to myself, "It's great that we offer glossaries from the various products we localize, but it'd be better if there was an easy way to actually use them too."
