Granted, Boston and Tiki Huts are not something you normally associate with one another…although…a good friend of mine in the area does have a custom-built Tiki Bar in her living room. But I digress!

Blain Barton, my colleague from the Sunshine State, along with his IT Pro brethren has put together a great 10-city event revolving around the Windows client roadmap and focusing on security, application compatibility, and cool features of Windows 7.

Session Abstracts

Moving to the Modern OS Roadmap

In this welcome session, we will explore some of the key challenges facing IT Professionals in today’s economy. We’ll examine scenarios around Windows 2000, Windows XP, and the importance of moving to a modern OS. In addition, we will investigate the improvements made with Windows Vista SP2 and guidance concerning Windows Vista deployments.

Windows Security and Application/Driver Compatibility

In this session focused on security and data protection, we’ll explore the new “Bitlocker-To-Go”, rich support tools like Reliability Monitor, Resource Monitor, Windows Recovery Environment, the new System Restore and Problem Steps Recorder. We’ll also dive into application control using group policy and implement simple rule structures that include working with an application to Allow, Exception or Deny the installation. Lastly we’ll discuss Group Policy Preferences and how a User can change their own policy settings!

Windows 7 Beta Sneak Peek

Over the past few years, you've asked us to make some changes to Windows. We listened closely. Now it's time to share an early look at how we've used your feedback. We’ll discuss the changes we have made in Windows Vista that will affect Windows 7 such as hardware and search. We’ll take a look at new features that work with Windows Server 2008 R2 like DirectAccess™, a new network paradigm enabling the same experience inside and outside the office, and allowing seamless access to network resources increasing productivity of mobile users. Finally we’ll examine BranchCache™, which caches content downloaded from file and web servers, so that users in the branch can quickly open files stored in the cache, freeing up network bandwidth for other uses.
