I’m still getting this error even after the service pack installs we got from microsoft: The variation system failed to pair up pages...because their Content Types do not match.

How do i prevent this? What is the best way to fix this? In my search to find a solution to the problem i have found many blogs talking about it but no one seems to have a solution to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

See Stefan's earlier comment for a link to his blog post.

If you believe this is not the case, I recommend you contact Microsoft Support.

Keep in mind that if your service request is determined to be caused by a bug in a product, you will not be charged for the support incident.

Did you consider creating a new page and then assigning it as the new Welcome Page of the site via site settings (manually or programatically)? I might be missing something in the big picture, but this sounds like it would dodge the issue of changing content types for a page.

Same with the suggestion to use feature stapling with the pre-SP1 build to ensure the content type is enabled. There were definitely workarounds for some of the issues -- except, of course, for the performance issues described in part 2, since adding an index is not supported until officially blessed by Microsoft Support.

Keep in mind that this was just one of the reasons the customer decided not to use variations.
