improving perf in a virtual machine

I'm sure our field guys (many running TFS servers in a VM) will appreciate this advice (initially via Charles).  Keep in mind, none of this is really TFS-specific (although that's the interesting case for Charles, of course :) but more pointers is always good.  Rather than just provide one, I'll provide a list and you can pick and choose which ones you like best.

In my personal experience, giving the VM enough memory and a separate spindle are the major factors, but there are plenty of other things that can help as well.
