Sometimes it's better to just not think about it

I was in a bookstore and saw an some inspirational book title: "Shoot for the moon. If you miss, you'll still reach the stars".  ("shoot the moon" is a figure of speech meaning to pursue some big ambitious goal.)

No... If you miss, you be somewhere shortly outside of the earth's orbit and 93 million miles away from the closest star.

It's probably more inspiring if you just don't think about it.

Worser are the metaphors which imply that stars are an order of magnitude lower in size than the sun...

BTW, You Rock :D Just thought I should remind you.... ;)

If you don't shoot hard enough, you won't manage to fully escape Earth's gravity and you'll fall back and burn rather fast and leave a spectacular stripe in the sky...

Perhaps it is better to not think about it ;-)

I don't see it that much disappointing.

Have you ever splashed torchlight up to the skies? It is good excercise to find out, what is the probability that your splash will reach a star.

Anyway, the probability is far from zero. If you miss the moon, you still CAN hit the start.

Maybe if the author had really thought about it he would have titled it "Aim for the starts, if you miss you might just land on the moon" That makes a bit more sense to me

Reminds me of a spam I received advertising a dating site. Its pitch: "Love, Romeo and Juliet style"
