SDET's are not testers. Please refrain yourself from calling them that, we are developers who build test automations and tools to test products.

wow.. it's funny to see the contradictory information from the same place.. would you (authority) mind to refresh clearly what's the difference of SDET and a Tester in Microsoft? :)

I surely don't mind to call myself as a Software Tester cause i love doing Software Testing .. even though i hold a title of QA from my employer ... but don't you think this 2 msg from "Mr. Microsfotie" is making the issue more contradictory here?

As i used to know the Testers in MS are titled as MSDET..

Is he an SDET from MS? I think the authority should make it clear otherwise - those who will be redirected to this Link could be misguided with a contradictory / wrong information :)

Although SDETs are developers, most SDETs at MS are absolutely comfortable with being called "testers". So if you are asking someone, what he does, you'd usually ask "are you a dev or a test", and it's absolutely OK.

I'm and SDET and I love my job. Testers are the ones, who are most focused on quality, and make sure, that we are the only ones to suffer from bugs and issues in our products, and by the time our customers get a release, it has the highest quality, so people would use it and love it :)

Testers need to have special way of thinking - you need to be creative enough to break things apart and imagine any possible way an issue can occur. A good SDET can easily become SDE in future, but not the opposite.

So if you are offered an SDET position at Microsoft, don't turn away for such dumb reason as "I don't get to develop real code". Instead, join us and put your talent and effort in helping people enjoy our high-quality products!
