dear jobsblog Dear JobsBlog: How difficult is it to entirely change career paths at Microsoft? I'm talking a big change in roles, such as a Program Manager to Recruiter, for example.

Janelle I get asked this question at least once a day! Of course, every person is different, and some changes might be easier than others. But if you are a rock star at your job, go above and beyond the required work and are an amazing employee overall, then we want to see you at Microsoft for as long as possible!

Whether you want to move to a new team, a new manager, a new org, or even change careers completely, we will support you. Just keep in mind that with so many people at Microsoft you often have to drive those changes. If you are working as an SDE in Office and want to become a PM in Zune, for example, you may have to make the first move.

Let your manager know your career aspirations in yearly evaluations, take training classes, attend presentations from teams you are interested in, join the new jobs alias, and keep your eyes and ears peeled for your next career move. It will happen - you just need to help it along!
