Microsoft has some great relo benefits, but if you are applying for a position (generally outside of Redmond) and if the hiring manager does not have a relo budget for the role, you won't be paid and will be told beforehand. However, they definitely do cover your onsite interview costs.

Generally, the recruiting team will look for a non-local candidate if they don't find a good local option (candidate wise).

I'm currently going through the relocation process with Microsoft (still at relatively early stages) but so far I am amazed and the support and help I have received. I am moving internationally so it is a big move to Redmond but they are certainly committed to making things go as smoothly as possible.

The Microsoft jobs website is in really bad shape. The application is literally crashing half the time now. I cannot apply for jobs online. This has been happening for some time now but recently the performance of this application has really deteriorated. Here are the problems:

1.) Start at http://www.microsoft.com/careers/. Click on "Search Jobs by Region->United States". The application keeps loading but never gets anywhere. (This is a problem in IE7 but not Firefox for some reason)

2.) Lets say I'm actually at a job description and try to click the "Submit" button to submit my resume. This is not working at all. I am at this time unable to apply to jobs. (This is Firefox)

3.) And the most irksome bug of all. Say I search jobs by some criteria and get a list. I click on the "Date Posted" link in order to sort jobs by date. Whooop. All the jobs disappear and I have to go and respecify my job search requirements ALL over again. This is annoying to no end.

Let me know if this team is hiring. Seems like they could definitely use some help and I happen to be looking :)

I've been reading comments on your blog; some of them dated back to 2004 and 2005 I think.  Can anyone tell me if the current relocation has assistance for homeowners in respect to selling their existing home,  mortgage differential costs, temp housing etc.  Also one comment I read mentioned some type of assistance for a spouse that would be relocating who is currently employed.  My husband is interviewing with Microsoft and I am a Software Engineer who would be leaving behind my job.  The possibility of moving to WA is very exciting but also scary at the same time based on the increased cost of living (ie. housing).

Any information you would be willing to provide would be greatly appreciated!
