Got Tagged. 5 Things you don't know about me.
Maybe you've seen the blog tagging that seems to have been going around like a Hello Virus or at least a Hello World. I have to thank Keith Richie for this one. Apparently it started with Bil Simser.
The gist is to say 5 things you don't know about me, then tag 5 that haven't been.
1. I had a swimming rabbit. Well, I didn't know it could swim until it did. Not sure how much background you need. It wasn't a recent event, and I'm unaware that any scientific work has ever been done to see how many rabbits can swim, but mine did.
2. I danced with goats. If the rabbit didn't give it away, you may have guessed I grew up in a rural area. In Idaho they wouldn't call it a farm, but outside the rural area they'd say we lived on a farm. We lived on a 2 acre lot. Yes, my kids (goats) would stand up on their hind legs to eat the russian olive leaves and I'd grab their hooves and we'd dance. I later made up a song, "Everything Goat." It's a classic. Maybe I can get Keith Richie to put some music to it and we can release it as a single.
3. I unofficially have the record for the most pogo stick jumps in Idaho. I had 10,000 bounces one Sunday afternoon when I was about 12 (Not a world record). The neighborhood kids were over until they all got bored. I could have gone longer, but lost my support. I would later take my Pogo Stick Jumping skills to a competition and jump rope and even jump over a volunteer for Mr. DHS. It did practice it and was able to jump long distances from a top a stump or off picnic tables.
4. I didn't get my degree in CIS or computer anything. My computer teacher in high school gave me a C. Well, I probably earned a C since I wasn't much of a designer using the turtle (Logo). I could make it move around the screen, but the math was too much. The basic programming in the class was ok, but not interesting since it involved a lot of math. It was the invention of the Internet (Thanks Al) that made it possible for me to get back into the web world without needing to know much about geometry or calculus. My degree was a BS in Secondary Ed: Teaching Social Sciences with a minor in Psychology. Before I get written off... I've been working with IIS since 2.0 (before that it was Netscape Enterprise Server 2.0 and SuiteSpot), browsers since Mosaic and Netscape 1.0, and SharePoint Technologies since Tahoe and FPSE 2000 & OWS (precurser to STS). I started my own .COM in 1996 (Pizza2.com - I was a head of my time. It cost me $75 a month for hosting a 25MB website + $100 per year for the domain.) The business plan was to build a form with an email to fax gateway. The dial up connections would tie up the gamers lines, so they could order pizza on our site, select their toppings, and submit which would submit to the pizza companies fax lines. We almost bought the domain hotels.com, but decided to start smaller.
5. I LOVE to travel to new places and see the world. I have a goal to go to a new country every year. Next month I'll be making up for lost time. I'll be visiting Marrakesh, Morocco; Vienna, Austria; Prague, Cecz and Buda and Pest, Hungary. More than that I'm going to drag my 2 boys and wife half way around the world with me!
6. Here's a bonus one for you. I worked at a Netscape, Oracle, Sun Reseller building Perl, Java, Enterprise Apps and got my Solaris 2000 Sales Certification.
I'm tagging...
