900,000 files on the Team Foundation dogfood server!

Jeff Beehler was busy last night bringing a brand new Team System team's source code onto our dogfood server. A couple of folks experienced a temporary drop in performance while Jeff made a single checkin containing 40,000 files but he just sent mail around to say that the 250,000 new files have been added and the server is "humming along nicely".

Currently we have 895,916 files in our dogfood version control server!

I'll make sure to let you know when we reach 1 million.

Update: Jeff just e-mailed me to tell me that his biggest single checkin was actually 146,584 files. Wow.

I'd hate to be the poor sap in India or China that tries to open that changeset for details! That'll take a while. :-)

Keith's comment was a good challenge so I tried it :-)

I'm not sure which was the biggest but I think it was when Jeff checked in the root folder containing the entire .NET Framework. I didn't time it with a stopwatch but over my home 1.5MBps DSL connection (and WiFi) it probably took ball park 1 minute to open up the changeset.

Not quite China - but I think we'd see comparable performance.
