Techfest 2006

Techfest is an annual event at Microsoft. For two days, Microsoft researchers from around the globe converge at the conference center in Microsoft's redmond campus. They deliver a number of lectures about their research, and set up more than a hundred booths explaining and demonstrating their latest results.

There's been surprisingly little press coverage on techfest. Some interesting ideas have been mentioned in the articles I've seen. The best and most interesting ideas are, sadly, not exposed to the press or general public, at least not yet: we're busy turning them into products.

So when you see a new way to edit or manipulate images, insert fantastic effects into video, program more effectively and efficiently, or interact with your computer without a mouse or keyboard (or dance-dance-revolution pad for that matter), at least consider the possibility that its origins were from Microsoft research, shown at this year's techfest.

It's exiting stuff, I wish I could share more!
