About once a month, someone asks me how to paint a room because they think I'm "handy." I'm not a professional painter. I don't even like painting much. But I have gotten pretty fast at it over the years. Step 1, I'd try Goo Gone, which you should be able to find at Home Depot, Staples, a local hardware story, and even maybe your local drugstore. It's basically a citrus-based solvent. It smells kind of like orange juice, and isn't very powerful, but I've found it will loosen uncured (i.e. hard, but not totally hard) latex and oil paint even 72 hours after a mess. YSpritz it on and leave it for a few minutes (really -- it takes time to soften the substance) and it may loosen the paint. Rub hard with a clean rag. If that doesn't work, I'd move on to a much, much more powerful chemical, Goof Off (which is basically Xylene), which you can get at Home Depot for sure. Goof Off will remove anything from anything, including the finish from your floors, chair rails, automobiles, and teeth. (Just kidding about the teeth.) I keep both chemicals around the house and find myself using them for all sorts of problems, always moving from Goof Off to Goo Gone. But be wary of Goo Gone, since it will ruin many finishes lightning fast.

re: How to Paint a Room: What Your Mother Never Told You

I decided to follow your instructions on how to paint a room and went today to pick out a primer.
