Migrating Word VBA Solutions to Visual Studio Tools for Office

Here is a great piece of work written by none other than Office Zealot kingpin, Chris Kuniki, on how to migrate Word VBA to Visual Studio Tools for Office. A lot of people regularly ask questions about migrating from a version of a given Office product to another and how they should go about it. But migrating to VSTO from VBA is actually a much different question in many ways. It involves moving from a COM-based solution to a managed code solution. To be honest, in the migration realm, generally we could a lot better informing people and providing tools. As a side note, the Access 2003 Conversion Kit is proving to be one of the most well-received things we have done in this area.

This new article on moving from VBA to VSTO is the first part of a what I expect to be a longer dialog on migration. It is a great read, and big thanks to the VSTO team for sponsoring this paper.

Rock thought for the day: I heard that U2 is planning a fall/early winter release of a new album with a tour to start up in the spring. The last show I went to, "All that you can't leave behind", was truly brilliant- great music, the Bono schtick [he even stage-dived], and much more intimate than the Pop tour. My wife was expecting our boy #4, and there we were dancing for the entire show in truly phenomenal seats. Good times, good times.

Rock on.
