DurantIt's really not much of a risk. The far bigger risk (and the stats prove it) is from the constant stream of careless drivers on cell phones. I rode nearly 7000 miles last year, and if you spend that much time on a road shoulder, you see a lot of really, really bad driving. I can tell you that most of the infractions are from drivers blabbing away on the cell phone. I saw a guy the other day on the phone and reading (!) while "driving" his car. It's truly sad that in Cali there is less concern about these bozos than cyclists listening to the radio (which by the way is not any where near as sound-drowing as the music that most people listen to in their cars).
