jch: What is the relationship between MSN Desktop Search and Lookout? I've been using Lookout for a long tinme and have been quite pleased by it; should I make the switch?

I believe we bought LookOut to recruit its author, and then kept it available so that we wouldn't piss off existing users. The core technologies in LookOut and MSN Desktop Search are different, but in essence they do the same thing in the same way, and you're not going to see any magical gains if you switch (although the power-user features of the deskbar are verrrry nice). Going forwards, it's a pretty safe bet that Desktop Search will be the more "strategic" product and will see a lot more manpower and updates applied to it. So you should probably switch at *some* point, but there's no compelling reason to do so if you're happy with what you've got right now.

I have installed MSN Desktop Search, and since then if I close an IE window before the window's contents have been completely loaded, sometimes I will enter into a situation where the IE menu would disappear. Yes, I would no longer be able to get the IE menu even if I open a new IE window. Entering a URL in the address bar would not cause the URL to be fetched. The worst thing about this issue is that I have to restart my machine in order to get things working again.

Can someone investigate this issue?

got some Bad experience in using msn desktop search if I know the exact file name...

for example if the file name is filename07.rar , I wont be able to find it if I search the exact file name "filename07.rar" , or " filename 7 " or " filename07 .

I can find it by searching "filename", but there might be more than a thousand results.
I can also search it by typing "filename 07" , but sometimes I might not remember whether it's filename7 or filename07~
