New York may ban iPods and cell phones while crossing street

Wow! This is amazing. Senator Carl Kruger from NY is trying to get legislation passed that will ban electronic devices while crossing the street. You could face up to a $100 fine for crossing the street. That's not while driving - that's while walking!

His impetus for this legislation is that 3 people have been killed from Brooklyn in the past year because they stepped in front of a car while wearing headphones or talking on a cell phone.

I understand that this is a problem but is that a "National Epidemic" that requires legislation?

We will have to hang up every block while walking. Take off our headphones to cross the street. Have we really reached the point in US history where we need to legislate looking both ways before crossing the street?
