Cryptic error while attempting a Vista backup...
I few days back I received the following cryptic error message when I attempted to complete a Vista backup on my Vista Ultimate Media Center PC:
File backup failed. The error is: If an MM error is returned which is not defined in the standard FsRtl filter, it is converted to one of the following errors which is guaranteed to be in the filter. In this case information is lost, however, the filter correctly handles the exception. (0xC00000EA).
At it turns it this error is caused by problem in Computer Associates' eTrust program. Once I disabled eTrust real-time scanning I was able to complete the backup. CA has been informed of the problem and are working on a fix.
