JScript - Managed or Native, JavaScript, ECMAScript - What's what? And references ...

Being a late entrant into the group, I always had questions regarding what’s what of JScript - Managed or Native, JavaScript, ECMAScript. Though I could find quite a lot of information at varied places, I thought it might be a good idea to compile a small blog around the subject – so that we have the information collated at one place. And here is what I ended up with:

·         The World of JScript, JavaScript, ECMAScript …

·         Difference between JScript, JScript.NET and Managed JScript

·         Some Quick JScript References

Putting links at the JScript team blog site just in case somebody finds them useful.

Thanks

Gaurav

Hi,

Are there plans to build a command line interface to the JScript engine?

This would really help with automated testing of Javascript files.

Many Thanks

It's been a long time since first mentions of DLR and dynamic languages on .Net, however there's nothing production ready yet. I suppose the need for embeddable script for .Net is great, and its not limited to Silverlight only. Can you please explain why did someone chose to link DLR, managed jscript and silverlight so tightly, making it practically impossible to use the script engines in other applications?

Will we ever see a build of the JScript runtime/compiler targeting .NET (vs. CoreCLR), or a source code release?
