Goodbye Bluestone, hello JBoss

News.com has an article up about the news that HP will now provide support for JBoss.  Now I can't really comment on JBoss, I installed it a few times and played with over the years, but I never developed any real code using it.  Personally when it comes to Java application servers I was a huge fan of Orion and actually brought it into a few small shops during moonlighting gigs before my MS days.  But among the commercial servers I always liked Bluestone the best.  I actually thought the HP purchase would help Bluestone grow its market share and flourish, alas like my stock market day-trading days, it was doomed.

What does this mean for JBoss?  I think this gets JBoss over the IT hurdle for lack of professional support and actually into more J2EE shops on  production servers.  For HP, my impression is the value is mostly in marketing fodder against IBM and Sun, not upside revenue growth in professional services from JBoss shops.
