The ISV 64-bit dilemma ....

So in talking with ISVs over the last year or so about 64-bit adoption I have to admit that outside of the database layer, software vendors large and small are not feeling the pressure to move their applications to a 64-bit platform.  Relatively quickly this is about to change.  I was chatting about the issue this morning with our illustrious US ISV team boss: Larry Gregory.

When I say quickly, I mean it will happen in just a few short years rather than mulitples of years or decades.  I read a recent Gartner report talking about adoption of Windows Server X64 and providing guidance, "The Shift to 64-Bit Windows Server Computing Begins" by John Enck.  In the summary it states that by this years end, 30% of new Windows servers will be X64 servers.  By the end of 2007 this number jumps to 45% and hits 65% by 2008.  This is rapid technology adoption.

The question for Independant Software Vendors is: are you ready?

I've been hitting up my managed ISVs on this question the past several months and thought I should also share it with you....
