SQL Server 2005 Application Compatibility Lab

So next week I'm running my 3rd SQL Server Application Compatibility Lab in the last year and its right here in Redmond this time.  It's a lab focused on doing an in-place upgrade of a SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005.  We do it in 3 steps:

  1. Run Upgrade Advisor
  2. Do an in-place upgrade on a test machine of SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005
  3. Once satisfied, we upgrade once again to SQL Server 2005 native mode

The coolest part is we do this all in a single day.  Of course we do require a few hours of preparation time for the ISVs to bring in both a backup and a replay of the typical usage scenario of their database.

Once you embark on your upgrade journey, be sure to download the Upgrade Advisor and hit the SQL Server Setup and Upgrade Forums

Cheers!
