Linguistic Profile

This is comical to me, as anyone who has heard me speak can attest that I have more than a slight Southern drawl and liberally pepper sentences with "y'all".

Your Linguistic Profile:

55% General American English
30% Dixie
15% Yankee
0% Midwestern
0% Upper Midwestern

The crack about calling everything "Coke" is actually true, we do call everything Coke.  But if they really wanted to gauge someone's Dixie influences, they should ask questions like:

What do you call a small restaurant establishment that serves breakfast or dinner at any time of day?

  1. Diner
  2. Deli
  3. Waffle House

If you are designing a city, what would you use as a basis to name the streets?

  1. Types of trees (oak, pine, elm, poplar, etc)
  2. Presidents (Washington, Lincoln, Johnson, Reagan, etc)
  3. Why would y'all name a street anything other than "Peachtree"?

What do you call the war that occurred in the United States in 1861?

  1. Civil War
  2. War Between the States
  3. That time when those damn yankee bastards thought it would be funny to burn everything

I couldn't agree more with y'all about y'alls additional questions :) As someone who spent a few years in Atlanta, I couldn't agree more with you.

BTW, there are a few waffle houses here in Texas, and they also use "y'all" all the time and consider that they still could secede from the Union at any time they please. However, I have yet to find a peachtree street in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Here, everyone seems to live on a freeway access road.
