Why Can't I Find a List of Zip Codes, Cities, and States?

I am working on a demo, and one of the things I dreamed up involves looking up cities based on a zip code, or zip codes based on a state.

I can't find the data.

Anyone know of a place where I can download a list of city, state, and zip codes?  Preferably for all 50 states, but even individual state data would be useful.

Not exactly what you asked for... but kind of close?

The USPS has an POX like API that looks free to use...

http://www.usps.com/webtools/address.htm

ZIP Codeā„¢ Lookup
Find matching ZIP Codes or ZIP+4 Code for any given address, city, and state in the U.S.

City/State Lookup
Get accurate city and state information when you only have the ZIP Code.

In my country you would get this information from the Postals Office for free. In your country you are going to have to pay:

http://www.usps.com/ncsc/addressinfo/citystate.htm

The reason you are going to have to pay for it is because the CD-ROM contains 100,000 records :D

Gabriel - THANK YOU!!!  This is perfect.

What a pain in the arse that is.  The USPS POX service mentioned requires some special request form.  And there's no way I am paying the USPS for something that they should provide for free on their web site.

I guess, looking at it from another view, they can charge for it... because obviously, someone wanted it and couldn't figure out how to get it.

# Just curious

Why is it that you feel the USPS zip code database is "... something that they should provide for free on their web site?"
