# re: Mathematics in India of the Vedic age

Kannan,
Somewhere in my garage, I have a book on Vedic math written in 1963 by a 'Sankracharya' of one of the 4 mathas. He gave elaborate methods he derived for various basic calculations from Vedic texts - he also gave a modern mathematical explanation for the techniques. He also mentioned there that one of the verses in some scripture whose aksharas that when mapped to the numbers 0-9, give a person the digits of pi and there is some recursion key built-in. Just by memorizing that verse a math student can keep on deriving pi to additional decimal places in accuracy.
