Feel a rant coming on? Try the TSA Blog

“Terrorists Evolve. Threats Evolve. Security Must Stay Ahead. You Play A Part.” Oh, please. The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) has launched a blog called the Evolution of Security, with a tagline obviously written by Karl Rove or Fox News. The posts themselves are written by good, old fashioned Americans that we can feel good about (Meet the Bloggers, below). You may not believe it’s real, but it does have an address of https://www.tsa.gov/blog, which might be hard to hack.

Is the opportunity to post rants enough to make abused fliers forget about having their one-inch Swiss army knife confiscated or picking up a nasty case of athlete’s foot at LaGuardia? Doubtful, but fliers are eating it up. Each post gets tons of comments (which are censored). Maybe the plan is to sell advertising...

Evolution of Security is a good place to learn the facts about airport security. One of my favorite bits of wisdom: nail clippers have been allowed through the checkpoint since December 2005. Unlike improvised explosives devices (IEDs), these do not present a significant threat to an airplane. That’s a relief.

Meet the TSA Bloggers (just regular folk):

Ethel likes music, ice cream, and weird facts (did you know that elephants can smell water from as far away as three miles?). Prior to joining she attended MIT designing artificial gravity systems for NASA. In her free time, she perfected her hog calling skills to the level of qualifying as a finalist at the 2005 Wisconsin State Fair!

Bob works at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport as a Supervisory TSO and a Behavior Detection Officer. He lives with his wife, 3-year-old daughter, and a 100 pound German shepherd named Clarence. Prior to the TSA he was a singer songwriter and traveled the world with his band.

Chance is an analyst at TSA in Arlington, VA. He’s been with TSA over 3 years, and enjoys his profession immensely. After work he enjoys reading nonfiction, Wii and PC gaming, and introducing his 21 month old to the world.
