Video demos

I know, I know...I haven't posted many new video demos since starting this blog. I've had a lot of changes happening lately, and I've been spending a lot of time finishing up work on the Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office for Mere Mortals book. We added an entire chapter dedicated to the new Cypress features and have been incorporating all the tech review feedback that we've received...now we'll enter the "editing phase" (Yay!).

About the video demos ... I am planning to post a series of demos for each of the following categories:

Hobbyist Series. I'll post some video demos that show you the basics using Visual Basic Express.

Pro Dev Series. I'll post some video demos that show you more advanced programming, as well as some new features in Visual Basic.

VSTO Series. I'll be posting a series of video demos of some of the examples in the VSTO for Mere Mortals book; so you'll get an early look at some of the topics covered.

I'll also label and categorize them as such so that you can easily find the demos you're interested in.  If you have ideas or sample requests, please let me know!

Kathleen, looking forward to the videos... you have a real knack for making things understandable.

Also, I can assure you of at least one pre-order on your book when it hits Amazon.  :)

Thanks for all your efforts supporting us key-bangers.

Hey Maarten! Thanks for the heads-up that it is listed on Amazon; I think I'll post a link as a blog entry :-).  Re Mike -- he has a series of "Mere Mortals" books (Database Design for Mere Mortals, SQL Queries for Mere Mortals), so actually he's been at this a long time!

Hi Kathleen,

I was really hoping you could post up a demo where we can integrate VSTO capability in a templated Excel sheet.

Infact let me just tell you what I am trying to  accomplish.

I want to dynamically pick up a list of account totals (will keep on increasing) from a database and have them inserted in a new row (analogous to excels rowindex right click --> insert --> put in value) and finally have them added in a cell right under the last account total retrieved from the database.

I think this tutorial will generally be very helpful as it forms the foundation for a majority of tasks that people what to execute in excel.
