My First Week & About Me
This is the beginning of my first full week on my new team (Developer Marketing) in my new role (Product Manager). I officially joined the team last Wednesday, Dec 14, after a move from the product development side. With that said, I'll be leaving for my holiday vacation first thing tomorrow morning to bask in the sub-zero temperatures of Chicago, IL and Dayton, OH. ;-)
Before departing, I wanted to christen my new blog and tell you a bit about me with the hope that you will visit again from time to time.
I am originally from Dayton, OH and I am the second oldest of six (5 boys + 1 girl and she’s the youngest). I left Dayton to study electrical engineering & computer science at MIT and completed the BS/MEng program in 5 years. Two life-changing events happened to me during that time: 1) I met my wife who also graduated from MIT and works at Microsoft and 2) I completed four Microsoft summer internships. (One as an Software Test Engineer on Complete Baseball & Complete Basketball, two as an Electrical Engineer on the original Intellimouse and the last one as an Software Design Engineer/Test (SDET) on Visual J++.) I joined Microsoft full-time as an SDET on Visual J++ on June 22, 1998. I have worked in the Developer Divivision on developer tools since then; most recently as the Visual Web Developer Test Lead managing a team of 16 SDETs. Prior to that, I was the WinForms Designer Test Lead for the Everett release, a Test Lead on ASP.NET v1.0 and an SDET on VB.
It has been a fun and crazy ride on the product development side of the business for the past 7 ½ years and I am very excited about my new role. My new responsibilities will enable me to stay actively involved in certain strategic aspects of product development while focusing more intensely on making those products and technologies a success in the marketplace.
