VS Color schemes

A friend sent me a link to Tomas Restrepo's collection of VS Color Schemes today.  I think it's a fantastic idea.  I like to use a dark background, but there sure a lot of settings that need to be changed in order for it to be usable.  Especially if you use C++/C#/XML and XAML, which all have their own colors that need to be set...

I'll definitely be giving some a try when I get back in the office on Wednesday.  So far I think Ragnarok Blue looks like it'll be my favorite.

# VS for developers with eyesight problems

VS should let you change the colors of the properties, project explorer, and other panels.  Many of them are unfortunately hard-coded to black text on white background.

I run VS with primarily green text on a black background.  Strings are in red.  Identifiers in bright blue.

Gradients are also a problem for limited eyesight.

VS could also let you move the button bar up and to the right of the menu bar to give me another line of source code in the code window.

Essentially, VS should let you go with a full screen mode like most browsers do.

Hi John!

I also wish that it was possible to customize the colors of the Solution Explorer and the rest of the windows.  Note that all windows in VS should support Windows High Contrast mode.  You can enable it on Vista by

1. Right click on the desktop

2. Choose "Personalize"

3. Choose "Window Color and Appearance"

4. In the "Color scheme" listbox, choose one of the High Contrast schemes.

Hopefully we'll be able to add a more fine-grained customization in the next version of VS though.

Finally VS _does_ support a full screen mode.  You can enter it by using "View|Full Screen", or by pressing Shift+Alt+Enter.

Thanks for your reply.  I have tried the high contrast themes.  I am used to color and font problems given my use of nonstandard colors and overly large font sizes (130% to 140%) during the last 10 years and several versions of Windows.  I haven't tried Vista yet and I'm looking forward to better accessibility with it.
