Cool Web Projects for Windows
Yesterday I decided to take a look at some of the Web projects on Sourceforge.net that are created for Windows. I was quite please to find that there are some really cool applications that many Web Hosters can take advantage of. I decided to list several of those that I found to be interesting. It is quite encouraging to see such growth these days. The applications range from hosting control panels to websites and management tools designed for Real Estate Agents. Hope that you find some of these to useful as well.
POP3 Web Access
This will be quite useful for someone who wants to add a front end web interface to the Windows 2003 POP3 Service. The web interfaces look and feel is based on Microsoft Outlook Web Access typically used for a web front end for Exchange. A discount host or a reseller with his own dedicated server might consider this for offering mail to its customers. This will definitely add value to such an offering.
DotNetNuke Portal Creation Wizard
Last year was the year of DotNetNuke. Thus there seems to be a lot of new tools popping up that will compliment and extend DNN’s functionality. Portal Creation Wizard simplifies the portal creation in the DotNetNuke CMS. With this wizard, users will be able to create their own portals without help from the administrator thus expanding the usability of DotNetNuke.
SharePoint Template Project
The SharePoint Template Project (STP) is an open source project designed to allow people to create and share SharePoint site and list templates to use for common business solutions. This will certainly be popular for any one offering SharePoint Services. It will allow them to add value to their services buy adding tools and features that every small business needs. By the way Microsoft already offers many applications for SharePoint with a wide range of functionality, including expense reporting, organizational charts, and change management. Here I found another control alternative built for Windows and Linux called Zpanel. It’s free!!!
eDemonOnline
This is something I’ve definitely been looking for. Someone who is building and bundling popular web site tools built in .Net. Many of you might be familiar with Fantastico and this appears to be something similar. It says that eDemonOnline is the Ultimate Website .Net. According to SourceForge, “eDemon Online is a set of tools for webmasters and site owners which makes it possible to have an interactive site up and running in no time. It's a try to hit a standard for modern web services like wikis, forums, groups and mailing services in C# .NET”.

Awstats for IIS
Allows automatic generation of awstats for IIS servers. Install Active Perl, awstats and schedule awstats4iis to generate awstats for all sites on the server. Yeah it requires PERL but Active Perl works just fine on Windows. I should know I’ve written a few lines of PERL code in my day.
Real Estate Managment Tool
I thought that this was really cool. Many time when I talk to hosters they are often looking for applications to offer specific types of businesses; applications that target the unique needs of each individual business. I found this real estate web project on SourceForge. It is a complete management software package for manage real estate listings. It gives you the ability to signup users, upload pictures, and manage layouts. I’ve recently begun to do some real estate investing and this will be a cool tool to have for listing properties that I have available.
