One reason (of many) I don't really miss needing the Win32 APIs

My lazy a** is scrolling through the Win32 API Reference. It seems everytime I look through there I see something to amuse. Today, it's the PathYetAnotherMakeUniqueName Function. "Creates a new filename based on an existing filename." (and takes 4 parameters

Anyone using the MSFT JVM anymore?

http://www.inkblog.com/2003/05/06.html#a38 My two favourite MSFT evangelists, David and Thomas are seeking those folk who are still using the Microsoft JVM. Why? Becase in January 2004 it goes away . I for one will miss Bejeweled , and the other Java-based

XSLT play over the weekend

I have a love:hate relationship with XSLT. It's frighteningly powerful, but oftimes seems just a bit beyond my grasp. Also, I don't use it often enough to get good at it. If you set a progress bar watching me write some XSLT, it would look something like:

v 2.0 stuff (no spoilers)

I was at a talk by Anders Hjelsberg yesterday. He was discussing the already well documented v.Next features of C# (and other .NET languages). I've commented in the past on my weakness for hero worship, but he awes me whenever I see/hear him. Such power,

Dev Connections, day 0.5

Back in NOLA for DevConnections. Managed to munge my travel arrangements -- booked the hotel from Tue-Sun, but the flights from Mon-Sat. Ah, well, I'm here, it's hot (and humid), and I didn't pack any short pants. It just never occurred to me. Redmond

Airport WiFi, e-mail, and a rant

SeaTac Airport. Wi-Fi good. My last job at the Shining Empire made me addicted to e-mail. I would often get little other work done during the day, as my Inbox was usually good for a few new messages as I replied to each. I would typically send 60-80 e-mails

Morale events

One thing I still haven't gotten used to at Microsoft is morale events. Back when I used to work for myself, a morale event was taking the day off. During my stay at Infocorp , a morale event was "Who's getting the case, we're playing Unreal Tournament

Twisted Enya

OK, LaunchCast is good, but occasionally, people make me worry. This latest association was a bit of a stretch. Or maybe it's just that I don't see a link between fans of Twisted Sister, and fans of Enya.
