I hate newsgroups
Does anyone find any value in newsgroups anymore? As an example, Microsoft.com has just released a set of Web services to access some of the data on ms.com.
The Microsoft.com Web Service is an XML Web service that
enables third parties, as well as Microsoft Product
groups, eventually to integrate information and services
from MSDN, Technet, other Microsoft.com sites, and
Microsoft Support. It paves the way for true product to
Web integration, and provides a common way for partners
and customers to consume Microsoft.com content. Future
releases will build on this architecture to provide
access to a broader variety of Microsoft content and
services.
Fine and good. However, if you look at the support newsgroup, out of two screens worth of threads, there are two messages of value. Does anyone actually make use of public newsgroups? How can you possibly wade through that much noise to make the signal worth anything? If not, how do you get your information?
