Idle rainy day thoughts
As I walked in today through the rain, my Karma picked Enya to be the perfect soundtrack for depression. Yes, I could have flipped to the next song, but I never argue with anything called 'Karma' first thing in the morning.
I don't drive, but occasionally M wants to park the car in one of the company parking lots, so I usually get a tag. (On a side note, I think of these like the tags biologists put on wild animals -- walking through a grocery store parking lot, you can always pick out the 'softies. Probably tracking our migration and feeding habits, too.) Getting our new Yellow tags involves going to an internal web site, identifying your car, license plate, etc. then getting the actual tag from the building's receptionist. I had actually gone to the internal site last week, but never found myself near reception until today. I walked down and said, “Could I get a yellow tag please?” Then it happened. She reached over, did something on her computer, grabbed a tag, *and wrote my name down on a sign-in sheet*. (I should add that my ID tag is normally stored in my wallet, out of view). I'm still creeped out that someone whom I don't think I've ever said more than (looking up in the message) seven words to, in a building with a few hundred people, do *something* on her machine, and know who I am. Hmmm. best not to think about it.
Finally, I've been enjoying all the TechEd posts here, on SQLJunkies and Geeks with Blogs, but it got me thinking — where do the admins blog? The Windows Server geeks? The Exchange geeks (who aren't on the product team)? The guy using SMS? Is there another home for those intrepid operations types? The folk who complain about developers bespoiling their precious networks with random and ad hoc bits?
