SQL Web Administrator

Even with all of the many powerful resources at my demand to install, I still tend to install SQL Server Developer Edition. I guess it's just that I'm so used to just having that around for testing (and not wasting valuable CALs for testing purposes)

... but who will manage the Managers?

I know my blog is in serious danger of turning into a recruiting site or even (heaven forbid) a recruiters' blog , but I have another job offer for you. Our Site Management team (the good folk who keep MSDN and TechNet running tickety-boo to the tune

Kicking tires, sniffing hydrants

As many of you know, I'm often looking around at how "others" write their code. As such, this site is a candy store . OpenSourceCMS gathers together a large number of CMS-ish apps (classic CMS, Wikis, Blogs, Forums and more) into one testable site. The

That's one...

I've just realized that the ASP.NET Developer Center has actually been open for business for a year now. (I had thought the anniversary was 6/26, but it's actually 6/12 ). So much for doing something special for the anniversary. Sorry about that. I had

Well, that must have been a restful weekend...

I stared at the e-mail. It stared back. After what seemed like minutes, the pixels formed letters. I realized that it was actually telling me that there were two new articles on the ASP.NET Developer Center . First up, is a new article, from a new author

Julia (and Ted) discuss ASP.NET Security

I wish I could take in Julia's talk . She's going to discuss why you want to limit the rights of the account ASP.NET runs under. OK, this was a gratuitous plug for DevDays . Try to find the time to take them in. Lots of Web & security (& Web Security)

My word, but the hackers are getting clever...

News from NetCraft: http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2004/02/15/visual_spoofing_offers_new_opportunities_for_phishers.html Visual spoofing, as outlined by Don Park , uses javascript links to launch a new browser window without scrollbars, menubars, toolbars

Oh oh, Nikhil's looking at XAML

Nikhil Kothari (Dev Lead for ASP.NET, creator of the creature that became known as Web Matrix, etc. etc.) has started playing with Avalon and XAML. Big things coming, I would think. The “little app“ he created is amazing looking... http://www.nikhilk.net/Entry.aspx?id=30

An oldie, but a goodie

A customer request came in today, and I always feel that if one person is asking, 19 are likely fumbling around trying to find it. For those 19: ASP 3.0 object reference Scripting reference : this continues to be one of the most requested vroots off of

Re-enabling user:pass with IE

I made this comment over at David Cumps' blog, but in the interest of blam (blog spam), I'll repeat it here: David's posting is a description of the Registry poke you can do to re-enable the URL form: protocol://<user>:<password>@<host>:<port>/<url-path>

Faithful readers will know I'm slow on the uptake. So, they will hopefully forgive me while I tell the rest of you about two great sources for great ASP.NET controls: MetaBuilders : Andy, Andy, Andy. You just always know what to build. The controls here

ASP.NET and WalMart

From the sounds of things, the St. Louis roadshow went pretty well , even with a slight riot: I imagined everyone would wait in line and grab their copy - BUT IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT! Devin Rader and myself got shoved up against the wall and couldn't
