Ambient dashboard

Pretty cool -- I used to want an Ambient Orb , but I like the retro/analog feel of these gauges better. I just hope they will also allow your own data channels .

0.67 technical posts

First off, completely non-technical, but a great short story (I am a *huge* Lovecraft fan) of the gruesome fate that awaits in the Pumpkin Patch . Scanning the rest of Strange Horizons, looks like I may have some reading for the upcoming long, dark nights.

Lean, Sublime Lines ???

One of Nokia's new phones doesn't have a keypad. Instead : "The sleek and sexy Nokia 7280 offers a completely new mobile phone design, foregoing the traditional keypad for a discreet keyless dial. A fine lacquer-inspired high-gloss finish, complemented

Third verse is the same as the first (just in reverse)

In the ongoing serial drama I call Petard , the latest episode had Petard blow a power supply a few nights ago (at least that's what I and D think is the problem). Fortunately, NewEgg has a decent return policy (and pretty good prices if you're looking

Dual... as in 2, right?

IWill coming out with a Small Form Factor (SFF) PC that will support Dual AMD Opterons: http://www.iwill.net/zmax/zmaxdp_1.asp Looks to be the same size case as Shuttles et al. Hopefully quiet as well — and likely a nice foot warmer. TTFN - Ken

gadget shopping...

I think Laura has found the ultimate gadget for us. I wonder if M will let me get one? http://www.dimensionprinting.com/product_specs.html Nothing communicates design ideas faster than a three-dimensional part or model. With a Dimension 3D Printer, you

Stick this on your USB drive...

While it's not UT2004 , this game does have one advantage -- it's 96KB. When was the last time you could say that? They even had to lower the resolution of the screenshots of it on the home page, as they were actually larger than the game. Now you can

Weapons o' the future now

In case you feel like reading about the weapons you'll likely be using in some new (soon) video game, here 's an interesting, and often frightening set of descriptions, videos and more about some nasty stuff. Special guest appearance by a now retro Pocket

Cthulhu slippers!

Oh, my GAAWD!!!!! For someone who read everything he could find written by H.P. Lovecraft, these are must haves! Check out the rest of the stuff as well. Now I have to figure out how to pay for these. Thank you Christa ! TTFN - Kent [Listening to: Beata

PC Ez-Bake Oven

OK, I know it was an April Fool's joke, but I think I could really use one of these. http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/looflirpa/2004.shtml And with a newer Pentium 4, or AMD Althlon, you probably wouldn't even need any additional power -- just cook it over

Retro bike redux

Schwinn has created a new, retro-styled bike that comes pretty close to my first bike , but this one is pretty cool. The only problems I can think of having it are: I certainly couldn't/wouldn't be doing the STP on it (not like I will anyway) I'd be forced

Think different

Had my first Apple Store experience on Friday. Ms. Simon's iBook was having issues [1], so we took it in. Our genius, Rob, didn't even make a snide reference to the assorted logowear I had on. Not a flicker from the, “No, we don't have AppleCare

powering from waste

As opposed to wasting power. OK, neither ASP.NET nor Visual Studio related, but a neat news item. Scientists can use waste water to generate electricity while purifying the water. Of course, the article doesn't say if they're using pumps to move the waste
