A modest proposal: Date/Time considered evil

After documenting some of the problems I had with Date/Time when creating my RSS Aggregator , and reading a Google presentation at ETech, I came up with a noble idea. We all use the same date and time. Whereever we are in the world, whatever time of day.

Exit, dexter

Well, perhaps only "contemplating" leaving. Since some recent changes (to my URL), I'm thinking of migrating this blog elsewhere. No big whoop, I guess, as there are only about three of you that read this, but it's a fairly big decision for me, and those

I blame it entirely on Michelle

Thursday afternoons: "Get Stuff Done" time. Try to clear off my bug list (ugh, only down to 30), headlines for the ASP.NET Developer Center and Visual Studio Developer Center , review articles, other duties as they come up. Instead, read blogs. Michelle

Hello Janus

Three days into 2005, and I'm finally getting to my "Hello new year" post. <sarcasm>I'm sure you were all waiting with baited breath.</sarcasm> 2004 was a year of intense frustration and confusion for me. The frustration was due to {This section

Debugging MUIDs

Wednesday started out fairly normal -- look through all my "ContactUS", "VS2005 You wanted to know" and other support-related emails. One was from one of my Product Managers , though. In one sense, that means higher priority (he knows how to find my office),

Mostly non-technical

... I just needed a rant space. I've just spent 10-20 minutes trying to track down a bug in some code in a Windows Service I was writing, "Cannot close stream until all bytes are written." Get stream length. Yup, right size Get ContentLength property.

Heard while exercising...

While I don't have great exercise stories like " some people ". I was listening to the radio while walking on the Treadmill of Doom ® , someone requested, "Can you play the song by Queen that sounds like that Vanilla Ice song?" Ugh.

Petard date, 20040813

The new Petard was waiting for me when I got home today. M was patient as usual as I ran upstairs to put everything back into Petard Mk II. <screw> <screw> <insert> <insert> Power-up. Same problem . (Don't tell the kind folk I

Third verse is the same as the first (just in reverse)

In the ongoing serial drama I call Petard , the latest episode had Petard blow a power supply a few nights ago (at least that's what I and D think is the problem). Fortunately, NewEgg has a decent return policy (and pretty good prices if you're looking

Attack of the mini-meme

meme : /meem/ [coined on analogy with `gene' by Richard Dawkins] n. An idea considered as a {replicator}, esp. with the connotation that memes parasitize people into propagating them much as viruses do. More colloquilally: a way to store/share a moment

Highways and MSDN

After spending six of the last 13 days as a passenger in a hot car traversing the country (and the neighbouring country to the North), I'm home. I spent a lot of those 2400 km thinking about highways, strangely enough. Do the people that build and maintain

Horrid blast from the past

Did something yesterday I had hoped I would never need to do again — get some JavaScript to work in all available browsers. Why are we still having this issue? OK, in this case it was because the “ease of use” item I had been using from

Back on the monkey

While the infamous (to me) cold turkey episode in St. Louis taught me a lot. Today taught me more. I'm going back on the meds. It's time for you, my faithful reader (and management, seeing as how it's review time), to determine if that has any effect
