I can't wait to get my hands on Edit and Continue!

Any info on when the new versions will be up on the MSDN subscribers page? I just checked the online list of VS 2005 Community Tech Preview DVD Builds (via my MSDN Subscription) but there was nothing about a February version.

Unfortunatly the MSDN Subscription version is not on the servers yet.. But I'll be watching close.

I don't see this CTP listed on the MSDN site nor do I see the bits available for download in the subscriber downloads.

Hmmm. It was supposed to be up on the subscribers' center. Maybe they're just having problems stuffing all that goodness into the hard drive. All I can say is "keep watching" and I'll look at this end.

Beta 2? Does, "Soon" still work as an answer? How about within {answer censored by The Man}

The .NET Framework 2.0 Beta that comes with the CTP fails.

I know there was an issue if you already had an older version of the .NET Framework installed. Are you sure you (fully) uninstalled first?

Yeah. I tried first without uninstalling since the setup has a reinstall option, but that was dumb. I put the whole thing in a bad state. I finally got it uninstalled, rebooted, and now it seems to be installing properly.

Just started working with c# express and I have to say that it looks real good so far. However, I have a problem compiling a specific app as it says:
Error 5 Task failed because "sgen.exe" was not found, or the .NET Framework SDK v2.0 is not installed. The task is looking for "sgen.exe" in the "bin" subdirectory beneath the location specified in the SDKInstallRootv2.0 value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1.) Install the .NET Framework SDK v2.0. 2.) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. 3.) Pass the correct location into the "ToolPath" parameter of the task. C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50110\Microsoft.Common.targets 2452 13

The SDK won't install though, as it's expecting another framework version. Extracting the installer and changing the expected version in the ini won't help either.
Can someone help out here?

For those seeking VS Professional, here's the latest word from the person responsible for posting the bits on the MSDN Subscribers' Center:

I added the bits yesterday. For some reason, the toc wasn’t published last night, but, I resent the request, and it is now being published. It should be available this AM.

Anyone looking to uninstall previous express and install the new Feb CTP.. Remember to clean your temp directory (it may still have files from previous express install!).. Also files are left behind in the win/ms.net dir, program files, and at around 10 places in registry - even after uninstall. So unless you have time to check all those through I do not recommend installing over previous installation.

I do not really understand how the uninstall script is made, shouldn't it be generated on the base of what was installed? How it's possible to leave so much stuff behind? Perhaps the idea is that when the next version is installed, you still have your old settings around. Good in theory, but after major upgrade I prefer a clean setup as it's much more likely better tested.

Thanks for the comment on previous installations zzz. Could you perhaps provide more details on everything you had to remove (including registry)? I reinstalled windows / VS2005 December CTP just two weeks ago and would like to try removing the old gunk first to see if that works.

I heard at a recent ISV meeting that Beta 2 of VS.NET will be out this month. I can't wait because I'm currently running the Dec CTP and it crashes all the time especially when using design mode.

Yeah i just uninstalled the dec. ctp and installed the feb and Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0 was still there from the last one and vs.net was getting confused... removed the old version and it worked normally though... thats been a consistant issue throughout the ctps for me - not removing all the old assemblys

I downloaded and installed Visual C# Express, and it runs great, but I can't activate it. I clicked the registration link, and I logged in using my .NET Passport, but all I got was a page with an error message:
Unknown Error
An unknown error occurred while processing your request. This is most likely due to a connection failure. Please try again.

I've tried a couple of times the last few days.

Registration seems to work only if one uses an account with administrative rights (but did not activate the product for other accounts)
