MSDN Webcast Questions

I just finished my webcast and there were a couple of questions that I didn't fully answer.  So I figured I'd post here, and maybe the inquisitor reads my blog :).

Q: Microsoft will be releasing the Best Practices Analyzer for Project Server 2007.  Will the tool be customizable to add best practices to the ones that come out of the box?

Unfortunately the tool will not be extensible.

Q: Will the Administrative functions be accessible through the PSI?

There is a web service called Admin that let let you do a variety of operations.  Some examples of things you can affect include Active Directory sync options, server currency, reporting periods, statusing settings.  But there is much more to Admin, for instance there is a CubeAdmin web service.  This allows you to setup the cube building settings, kick off a build, and check it's progress.  There is a CustomFields web services that allows maintenance of the custom fields across the board.  Also let’s not forget the queue system and security web services.

So there will be a ton of administrative functionality available through the PSI.  Pick up the SDK and see if your favorite one is there.

Q: Will Project 2007 Beta 2 be an open beta?

Yes/No :).  You need to sign up, but I think they're taking everyone.  Here is the site to sign up at (click "Register Now" once the fancy picture of Office quits drawing)

Hi Larry

Yes i do read your blogs and thanks for answering the question becuase while you were answering the question my link was broken.  The reason i asked this question is that i have been working on Project server 2003 from last two years.  The only problem while administrating project server is to goto PWA and then search the admin section to do the required task.  Working on PDS to create an administrative desktop application is not as simple.  I have developed a custom application to create sites and subsites, add/remove users, create list, columsn and views and some other small desktop solutions.  i am not a beta tester for project server 2007 yet but if the admin service provides the methods for administrative settings.  It will be lot more easy for us to train few users to use the software to perform such operations.  And we can use validations to control invalid entries.
I am really waiting to see all these webservices running on my machine.  ONe more question where can i got project server 2007 SDK?

Regards,
Jerry

Hi Larry

First of all Thanks for the lovely web casts about project server architecture.  This web casts was very much interesting about the changes in project server architecture.  Although the PWA demo was limited but it was enought to excite me about the next version of this great product.  I am hoping to get it very soon on micorsoft web site.  Lastly thanks for adding my question to the your blogs.  I actually missed the answer do to lost connectivity.  I am now very much satisfied by reading the answer from here.  Thanks indeed.
