1800Flowers.com: Yes sir, Sombody has your credit card *Shudder*
Yes sir, Sombody has your credit card. You better call your credit card company about it.
Those were the exact words I heard from a customer service respresentative at 1800Flowers.Com less than 5 mins ago. I was so alarmed by the rude, unprofessional and quite stupid conversation that went on - that I had to blog it - with my own take-away - No more Orders for you. NEXT!
Here are details:
2 days ago I got 2 voicemails with 2 ordernumbers at office - saying I had to call 1800 flowers.com at a 1888 number. Their billing department no less. And I did give them a call.
10 mins on hold..... then a guy comes sayz he is finishing a call and another 5 mins on hold.... Then he takes one of the order numbers and says -
"Okie sir - we have a problem with your order"
"What order?" ( I know i had ordered flowers a few wks ago - but nothing afterwards)
"I need your first name and last name."
"No really. Which order?"
"I need your name, sir"
So i did. Whats wrong with a name - I am on the internet with my blog, remember.
"I need the last 4 digits of your credit card"
"Which one? wait. Why??? I aint giving you my credit card number. I dont even know the order"
"Sorry sir, this is how we take care of our customers. WE need the last 4 digits of your credit card number"
"But tell me wat the order is about and i will tell you if I ordered it or not"
"Sorry sir. if you dint order it - then somebody has your credit card. I advise you to call the credit card company soon."
I mean seriously. Ive been shopping on the internet ever since the first online shops came along in 1995! This is ridiculous. So i thought whats wrong with the last 4 digits of a CC and give it for my 3 cards - No match. He finaly relents and gives me the digits he has - and its no match with any of my other Debit or credit cards.
and he finally says "Ohh you are the recepient sir. Not the customer"
"And why was I called by the biling the department - if I am a recepient and not a customer???"
"Oh - we had your name on the customer form.... and your phone number dint match our records"
.......... Folks reading through this - might be wondering - the point of this - the logic in this conversation....... and coming up blank..... The second order # went through the same process - insane, illogical and quite frustrating.
My Point exactly. Not only do i find it a little farfetched that any of friends would be sending me flowers (hallo!! ppl - think memory cards, Mp3 players, smartphones, Tennis raquets, new tires for my 350z) .... but this whole shenanigan with 1800flowers was down right illogical, frustrating and now that I am reaching the end of my rant - a tad amusing.
So nexttime I think about 1800flowers.com I cant help but think - "Sir, somebody else has your credit card. Pls call your credit card company" *shiver*

Update on the 1800Flowers.com story:
So it wasnt a credit fraud case after all. It was a mix of bad-sales-process plus customer-service.
Apparently my friend had sent me a gift basket of goodies (cookies, chocolates, fruits, biscuits: YUMMMMYYYYY) and it was due to arrive 2 days ago.
Which is when they called me (The recepient) cos their sales-forms were screwed up with the wrong info.
She had called them again yesterday to say I dint receive it - what gives - which combined with my following up on my Voicemail 2 days ago and the "smart" customer service made it all an interesting story. Ofcourse she is pissed that the "surprise" gift hamper she sends me comes in 3 days late with 2 voicemails in my corporate phone 2 days ahead of its delivery.
Ofcourse the credit card number was hers.
All said and done - this still does not justify the conversation I had with the customer rep and his demeanour/approach.
Enough blogging *bite on chocolate* Mmmmm Almonds :) Isnt it awesome that the best things in life - come in a choice of: High calories.
