Future "predicting" Robots roam the roads in India!
I am always amazed at the new changes in India each time I go home. But these robots I am talking about have been there for atleast a decade, and when I saw this article - it was one of those Bada-Bing remeniscent moments :)
This specific robot is from Bangalore, but I must admit I have seen <Set Homecity pride tag ON> more fancier/funkier robots in Madras (Chennai) <Set Homecity pride tag OFF>. This robot (like most indians) is multilingual and speaks - Tamil (My Main Language), Hindi(National Language), Kannada(Language spoken in Bangalore), Telegu (Language spoken in Hyderabad) - and infact predicts the fortunes and future of the person who pays it. Like my mom says - You get everything in India - for a price.
In retrospection it is very interesting that I totally forgot about these robots - especially having been around a ton of robots at the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute and also the Mobot 2003 which was there on the year of my graduation - where robots competed on campus across this course .
So this C3PO-inspired fortune-telling Indian Robot has been on the streets making pennies and dimes for a decade or so now - but it still is kinda funky enough to be featured on today's blog entry!
Happy Thanksgiving Folks. And Thanx to Eric & Sarah Sabetti I get to have my first American Thanksgiving Dinner (Sorry Take-outs - maybe next year ;) )
