XBOX 360 Crashes- Temp Solution to the stray power-overheating problems?

Ever since the XBOX360 was released there have been some stray user-feedback on it crashing. But an informal poll by "TeamXBox" (user-public-forum not a MS-Team really) brought these results as of Sunday 11AM PST.

15% said it was defective so far in about 720 users - and most of the time it has been an overheating problem with the power-brick. As is expected from these surveys, the results are bound to be skewed towards the negative a lot more than  normal population, because this is not a "truly random sample." Users with problems are more likely to come forward and identify themselves as having problems (and hence vote) than users who dont have it (Because they are busy playing the game than vote).

PCAdvisor wrote an article on it recently with some MS comments - which underline the lack of any systemic causes but just stray cases - which are being looked into.

But while those issues are being investigated - GoldeneyeMaster on Gamespot forum found this solution to have the gamers continue playing their XBOX360s without issues - "I got a box with no cover and put the power brick on the edges" he says in his post on GameSpot Forum - gamers have flocked to the "solution" and verified that it works for the folks where power-overheating issues is causing the stray Crashes.

According to PCAdvisor: We have had a few isolated reports [of problems]," said Claire Dabreo, a spokeswoman with a Microsoft public relations company in the UK. "Like any major consumer electronics launch it's very complicated and there's always, unfortunately, going to be some percentage that's not going to work perfectly," she said. "But it's an incredibly small fraction and below what you would expect for a launch of this size."

So while the isolated issues are being worked-on - let the games continue :)

Looking at these things, it makes me wonder how much testing was done with putting the power brick in a small enclosed area (like the back of a TV stand or entertainment center) or putting it on shag carpeting.
