The Bad Omen of Ipod Nano and Me.

Before Christmas on my first attempt to buy a Nano on the internet I was scammed by some scam artistes who had a history of scamming and changing their names. Ofcourse having bought everything on Ebay from books, to batteries, to digital cameras to even my Saab 9-5 (before I got my 350Z) I thought Ebay was foolproof. Until now. For the second time in 2 attempts I have been been Ipod Nano-Scammed!

Well after I won the Bid (and paid $230 or arnd there) for it - I get this mssg:

Item Number - 9743118990
Item Title - Apple iPod nano Black (4 GB, MA107LL/A) MP3 Player

Seller's Name: MATTHEW DEDEWO
Seller's Email: MD7931@YAHOO.COM
Our records show that you were a bidder or buyer of one or more of this seller's items. We recently removed this seller's active listings and suspended the seller's trading privileges. Due to privacy concerns we cannot share further details about this seller.
If the seller asks you to complete this transaction outside of eBay, we strongly recommend that you do not proceed with the transaction.

UGH.

I raise the issue with PayPal (who I used to pay) and they came up with the following in a wk or two:

It has been determined that the seller was at fault, and as a result, we have recovered funds on your behalf. $175.00 USD has been credited to your account. This is the maximum amount covered by eBay's Standard Purchase Protection Program.
If your claim was for more than the amount covered by eBay's Standard Purchase Protection Program, the balance of the claim is due to you directly from the seller. We will make our best effort to recover the remaining balance from the seller on your behalf.

There goes another 50 bux for nothing! Danggit! And All I really wanted was a chic mp3 player for hearing some podcasts while running!

Is your paypal linked to your checking account or a regular credit card?  If it is not linked to a regular credit card do that NOW.  Then when there is a problem you take it up (briefly) with paypal and then dispute the charges with your credit card company.

You paid $230 for an iPod nano off eBay. Uhm. You can get a black 4gig iPod nano off Apple's website. http://store.apple.com/ click on "Save" on the right, down a bit on the page. A refurb iPod nano for $219. And you won't be scammed.

Bill - Yes I did use a regular credit card and it was through paypal. I raised the issue with Citibank as well.

Rosyna - it was a *new* shrink-wrapped Ipod for that money :) Cmon now - give me some credit here :)

Hello, this is Matthew Dedewo the 'criminal' mentioned above. It was my bad experience with Paypal that preceded your bad experience. I am sorry that things ended that way for you and my other buyers. I was inexpereinced at the time and had no idea about the UCC that states that any purchase over $500 must be in writing. I order over 16 IPods from an internet seller and assumed that Paypal's secure-ness was true. The guy took my money in 3 separate payments and disappeared. I contacted Paypal and they did their investigation, and found that I was right and that the guy did not hold to his side of the agreement by shipping the Ipods. I even gave them his bank account number which I got from him pretending to be another buyer, and all Paypal could tell me was that I was right and they apologize for the experience but since they had no means of getting the money back from the individual they were powerless to refund me. That was my last bit of money, and with my ebay account frozen, I had no way of explaining that to my customers. If you want I have no problem forwarding the email that Paypal sent me from my complaint. I wish had done better research and I wish I had seen the Paypal sucks website before sending over 1600 through them. It is noe excuse and not your problem or the problem of the other people caught in the crossfire. However, I would appreciate a response towards my email, so I can forward you the email and you can remove the derogatory statement or at least include my honest intentions that were fumbled by Paypals false secure statements. Or at least let me know if there are other legal ramifications I can pursue towards Paypal.
