Information surrounding technologies that I work with at Microsoft (Dynamics CRM)
CRM 4.0 "Presence"

For those of you that are wondering about UC “presence” on CRM 4.0

·         Presence did make it to RTM :)... pretty cool actually.

·         The client machine needs communicator installed and running

·         Only "systemuser” and “contact” entities will show presence

·         The field that “drives” presence is “emailaddress1” for contact and  “internalemailaddress” for systemuser.

·         Lookups will show presence by default (e.g. no need to enable anything when compared with “views” )

·         Some OOB views(grids) have presence enabled by default

a.       To enable presence in other grids that show contacts or system users they have to be manually enabled on the view (e.g. using advanced find or the view editor)

b.      The only field that “displays” presence on grids is the primary attribute (“fullname”) for both contacts and systemuser ( you can also use this field when using “related” columns).

Thanks for the entry -- there is surprisingly little out there about presence in Dynamics CRM 4.0. I saw that little check box when I was customizing a form and it threw me for a loop.

Thanks for the info. We have presence showing in CRM 4.0. It shows when you see the owner field on a form for example. But - we cannot get it to show on the user lookup grid at all, so that for example you could re-assign a case to someone who is online.

Any ideas?

Thanks

John

I can solve my problem after I install outlook, crm for outlook, communicator client for every client pc.

Then in IE menu Tools-Internet Options-Security-Trusted Sites, you need to add crm server url like http://crm4.poc.net

thanks

OK, so we all know what it's for - but how do you turn the thing off? From what I can see, my clients have a choice of "display it" or "uninstall Messenger". I'm sure that can't be right, can it?

Greg: To turn it off on grids just unckeck the "show presence" checkbox.  There is no UI to turn it off from lookups AFAIK.
